About the Author
From Apprentice Plumber to Heat Pump Pioneer: A Journey in Energy Education
Ian Edgeworth’s journey in the building industry started 30 years ago, beginning as an apprentice plumber and quickly expanding into the domestic gas sector. After honing his skills and setting up his own successful business in 2005, he took on a new challenge in 2012, stepping into full-time employment as an Operations Manager. It was then, albeit reluctantly, that Ian first encountered Air Source Heat Pumps— (unknowingly to him) an introduction that would spark a passion for renewable heating technologies.
By 2014, Ian’s long-held dream of moving into energy education became a reality. He joined one of the UK’s most respected training facilities as a Trainee Technical Trainer and Assessor, eventually rising to the role of Centre Manager and Director. Moving on to a new challenge in 2022, developing and leading a new bespoke training academy in Edinburgh as Technical Director, and is currently Head of Training with Corgi Technical/ASCP UK continuing to push the boundaries of education in the energy sector.
Driven by a desire to raise standards across the training sector, Ian has travelled the UK and mainland Europe, learning and sharing his deep appreciation for heat pump technology. However, one thing always bothered him: the lack of accessible, engaging guidance on renewable and low temperature heating systems. Much of the available material was overly technical, dry, and regulation heavy.
And so, his books were born.
Ian’s aim is simple—create something you’ll enjoy reading. Written in a conversational style, his books is are user-friendly, designed to take the rigid jargon out of learning and replace it with laid back, practical insights. With linked video content to complement his teachings, Ian brings his classroom expertise directly to you, making it easier than ever to understand sustainable energy.

"I hope these books bring some of my passion and training style right to your fingertips and offers a fresh, engaging way to communicate & learn. Enjoy the journey!" – Ian Edgeworth
